in prayer
for the virtuous young man
Johann Möhmeier”
Farmer’s son from Obergrasenfee
Non-commissioned officer in the
16th Bavarian Infantry Regiment,
8th Company
Bearer of the Iron Cross
and the Military Service Cross,
3rd Class with Crown
who, on 20 September 1916,
after 25 months of faithful fulfillment of duty,
at the age of 26 years and 4 months,
died a hero’s death for the Fatherland
as the result of a shot to the head.
Farewell poem:
Farewell from your aged parents,
We shall never see you again;
And we, the father and the mother,
Would that our hearts might break from grief.
Heavy is the blow that struck us,
Torn apart is the tender bond.
Yet one sweet comfort remains for us:
You died a hero for the Fatherland!
