Vietnam War Elite Special Forces MACV SOG/ARVN "PRU" Provincial Recon Unit TU THAN 235 Patch.This unit was part of the Phoenix Assassination Program which was CIA trained and US Special Forces Commanded.It was made up of Cambodian Special Forces which operated Classified Operations into Cambodia and Laos in 1968.The unit rescued downed American pilots and was a rapid reactionary force in Laos and Cambodia.The TU THAN 235 Unit was part of the US 5th Special Forces in Vietnam.

The Exploitation Forces were in operation from early 1957 and were CIA (SOE) Trained and controlled.

Utilised in circumstances where opportunistic situations could be exploited to the maximum gain of the Allied Forces.

They were highly trained (some to US Special Forces Standards and all considered Special Forces by Vietnam standards). They were the fore-runners of the Mobile Guerrilla Forces and Mike Forces. Often operating as mercenary groups (This unit for example).

These sort of units had all but disappeared by late 1969.

Operation Phoenix - ( The Phoenix Program )

Operation Phoenix became official in 1968 however existed for years before that - Operation Phoenix was instigated by the CIA with an aim to destabilize, neutralize, "capture and kill" members of an organisation the CIA called the VCI (Viet Cong Infrastructure)   The program was designed to disrupt any civilian activity that supported the VC south of the DMZ - this include people that supplied guides, foods, storage dumps, people who helped with conscription to the VC.

The Central Intelligence Agency turned the Operation over to the US Amry and the ARVN in 1968 and continued to operate until 1972.
