Training Squadron SEVEN (VT-7), known as the "Eagles".
Identity:
VT-7 is a U.S. Navy strike jet training squadron, one of four such squadrons and one of two based at Naval Air Station (NAS) Meridian.
Mission:
VT-7, along with Training Squadron NINE (VT-9), forms Training Air Wing One of the Naval Air Training Command, providing advanced training for strike jets, as well as airborne early warning and carrier onboard delivery aircraft.
Personnel Trained:
The squadron also trains United States Marine Corps (USMC) aviators and select foreign military pilots.
History:
VT-7 originated as a Naval Advanced Training Activity at NAS Memphis, Tennessee, and was designated as VT-7 in July 1960, relocating to NAS Meridian a year later.
Recognition:
VT-7 has a strong safety record, winning its first of twenty Chief of Naval Operations Aviation Safety "S" Awards in 1964.
